DEER PARK UNITED CHURCH
An Affirming Ministry within the United Church of Canada
August 25, 2013 14th Sunday of Pentecost
Welcome to our Sunday Service!
For your convenience, comfort and need:
-Hearing assists are available at the sound booth
-Bibles and cushions are available in the Narthex
Ushers and Greeters: For the rest of the summer season, we are asking for volunteers to act as our ushers and greeters. We offer Donna Black a BIG THANKYOU for her work providing ushers for all our services September through May!
Before the service begins you are invited to light a candle in the candle box at the front of the sanctuary. You may do this in remembrance of someone, to pray for someone who is ill or to remember someone special in your life today. Please help the children to be respectful around this sacred place.
Deer Park is an inclusive, open, and progressive community of faith within the liberal Christian tradition, with its roots in the social gospel. We take the Bible seriously, but not literally, recognizing that parts of the tradition came out of specific historical circumstances and need re-interpretation for our time. We believe that a questioning theology is a healthy part of one’s spiritual journey. We are called to live God’s vision of wholeness by: loving and serving others; respecting all creation; celebrating life; embracing diversity, such as sexual orientation, gender, age, race, religion, occupation, or socio-economic status; and challenging injustices to create a safe sanctuary for all people to be themselves. With that understanding of who we are, we “seek wholeness through the Spirit” for ourselves, others, the larger community and the world.
Please turn your cell phones off, or onto vibrate – thank you!
