Deer Park United Church hosts a bimonthly free food giveaway in partnership with Community Kitchens of Calgary and the United Way. Currently, this program takes place at 11:00am and 6:00pm on the first and third Thursdays of the month. We are considering a move to a different time to better benefit the community and our volunteers. If you attend the giveaways, volunteer, or would be more likely to volunteer were the program to occur at a different time, please consider participating in the quick and anonymous survey at the link by January 25. Health and Healing Committee

A team is needed to support those who:

• Create, bless and deliver prayer shawls to those who are in need
• Make and deliver soup to those in crisis
• Make sandwiches, bake goodies and serve at Funeral Receptions
• Visit with people on a short and long term basis

We need people to help make coffee for after the Sunday service and to help us Set up before and Clean up after

Stewardship Committee

A year round commitment with an intensive 8 week Stewardship campaign in the fall. You will be able to help the church to grow in its generosity in the use of our member’s time, talent and treasure.

The Refugee Sponsorship Committee

•  Communications Working Group – to plan information meetings and updates for the supporting churches
• What’s Next Group – to do research on financial support for our Syrian family after the first year is complete and to determine what other needs there are of the refugees already in Calgary or are waiting to come to Canada
• Employment Working Group – under the Team Leadership of Jim Adamson – to seek out employment opportunities and to provide practical help and emotional support
• Recording Secretary – if you like taking notes we have need of a recording secretary for the Coordinating Committee meetings – who meet about once per month.

Musical Abilities

if you have any musical abilities be it singing or an instrument we would love to have you join our music team here at Deer Park.

Youth Drop In

The Drop In program is always happy to have volunteers come in and donate food and time to cook for the kids on a Friday night. We also want to start a bit of a pool of volunteers who are willing (if they’re available) to drive kids around the city when needed. To Naked Faith, regional events or camps.

Spinz Around

Spinz Around is a free food giveaway hosted by Deer Park United Church, supported by Community Kitchens of Calgary. This program, which occurs twice a month, provides donated fresh and non-perishable goods towards individuals and families who need them. Participants are able to select what food they want to take home, rather than taking a preselected hamper. Through this program, individuals and families are able to build closer connections with their neighbours, and learn more about community resources that could provide support to them.

Spinz Around– Food Shopping: 2 positions available

• Time commitment: Approximately an hour and a half, including transportation time (1.5)
• Dates: Ongoing, the first Thursday, and/or the third Thursday of each month
• Location: Community Kitchen Program of Calgary, 3751 21 Street NE
• Description of Role: Line up at Community Kitchen doors at approximately 8:45am. Choose food to give out to community residents; assist in packing of food into delivery vehicle; unloading at Deer Park United Church.
• Note: Transportation to/from this location may be available with delivery driver. If interested, both shopping positions may be filled by one person for approximately a three hour time commitment (3.0). Call Kiran at 403-278- 8263 or Sarah at 403-390-4154 for details.

Spinz Around – Delivery Driver: 2 positions available

• Time commitment: Approximately an hour and a half, including transportation time (1.5)
• Dates: Ongoing, the first Thursday, and/or the third Thursday of each month
• Location: Community Kitchen Program of Calgary, 3751 21 Street NE to Deer Park United Church, Road SE
• Description of Role: Arrive at Community Kitchen approximately 8:45am; assist in packing of food into delivery vehicle; delivering and unloading food to Deer Park United Church.
• Note: Vehicle needed. Support in transporting Spinz Around Shopper may be needed. If interested, both delivery positions may be filled by one person for approximately a three hour time commitment (3.0). A larger vehicle would be required to meet food needs (i.e. SUV, van, truck, etc.). Call Kiran at 403-278-8263 or Sarah at 403- 390-4154 for details.

Spinz Around – Set-Up: Multiple positions available

• Time commitment: Approximately half an hour (0.5)
• Dates: Ongoing, the first Thursday at 10:00am, and/or the third Thursday at 5:00pm of each month
• Location: Deer Park United Church, Road, SE -Description of Role: Set up tables for food and disperse food amongst tables; label amount restrictions on food; set up food and beverage table, children’s activity table, and registration table in waiting area; prepare coffee, tea and water, as well as laying out necessary utensils for food; setting up seating.
• Note: If interested, both set-up days may be filled by one person for approximately a one hour time commitment (1.0). Call Kiran at 403-278-8263 or Sarah at 403-390-4154 for details.

Spinz Around – Clean Up: Multiple positions available

• Time commitment: Approximately half an hour (0.5)
• Dates: Ongoing, the first Thursday at 11:30am, and/or the third Thursday at 6:30pm of each month
• Location: Deer Park United Church, Road, SE -Description of Role: Clean up tables; put away leftover food; clean up food and beverage table, children’s activity table, and registration table; light sweeping in fellowship hall; light dishes and cleaning of coffee, tea and leftover snacks.
• Note: If interested, both clean up days may be filled by one person for approximately a one hour time commitment (1.0). Call Kiran at 403-278-8263 or Sarah at 403-390-4154 for details.

Spinz Around – Registration Supervisor: 2 positions available

• Time commitment: Approximately 45 minutes (0.75) -Dates: Ongoing, the first Thursday at 10:45am, and/or the third Thursday at 5:45pm of each month
• Location: Deer Park United Church, Road, SE
• Description of Role: Assist newcomers in completing a registration form and explain program rules, sign-in program participants and assign them a number.
• Note: If interested, both registration days may be filled by one person for approximately an hour and a half time commitment (1.5). Call Kiran at 403-278-8263 or Sarah at 403-390-4154 for details.

Spinz Around – Food Room Supervisor: Multiple positions available

• Time commitment: Approximately half an hour (0.5) -Dates: Ongoing, the first Thursday at 11:00am, and/or the third Thursday at 6:00 pm of each month
• Location: Deer Park United Church, Road, SE
• Description of Role: Explain process to newcomers, assist families in observing food restrictions.
