Hi Tom, We happen to be in Mexico as Shrove Tuesday was celebrated and it was interesting to see in a very Catholic country people walking around with large ash marks on foreheads–nothing reticent here! Among several friends, they speak of ‘giving up’ for Lent, alcohol, smoking, etc. but I’m much more aligned with your camp of anticipating and celebrating what is to come, a much more positive approach. Thank you, Tom…..your article really is timely for us as we are going to be visiting with dear US friends in a few days and I must say that it’s hard not to have a different feeling about being with them….I am so surprised that they voted for
Trump. I think he is a disgusting individual not fit to be president.
Your article will help me focus on what is important and I’m praying I will be smart enough to be gracious but not condesending.
I feel badly for all who have been offended by his bullying and pray he will change his attitudes.
